Friday Five: My Favorite Superfoods Lately + A Giveaway!

What do you think of when you hear the term “superfood”? Do you think health, trendy, or both? Superfoods are all the rage when it comes to kicking our health up a notch and I’m going to share with you my top five superfoods I’ve been loving lately. Fun Friday. Foodie Friday. Friday Five. I figured today (Friday) was a great day to tell you about the superfoods I’m loving lately! So, here goes. I’m sharing my Friday Five to help unleash your inner Super(Foodie) for Fun Friday! Okay, enough with the play on words. Let’s get to it!

First, what is a superfood?

A superfood is simply a nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well-being. I’ve heard other definitions take it one step further and state that a superfood is a food that is packed with nutrients, but low in caloric density. Think high nutrients, low calories.

Regardless of the exact definition, it’s the phrase “nutrient-rich” that catches my eye. For many of us, it’s hard to get all of the necessary nutrients into our day and so I rely on superfoods and superfood supplements to give me a boost in overall health and energy!

A Tour of the NEW Wellness Shop

Because I love superfoods so much, when I redesigned my website I knew I wanted to include a wellness shop. I wanted there to be a place that you could go to jumpstart your journey towards health that included products that I regularly use myself and could never live without.

The shop is broken down into four sections: Shop Healthy (think Costco online for healthy foods), Cook Healthy (essential kitchen tools to get you started), Eat Healthy (my favorite superfoods to take your health up a notch) and Live Healthy (additional resources to help you live a vibrant and healthy life!).

Today, we’re going to focus on my top five favorite items that I’m currently using from the Eat Healthy section.

My Top 5 Favorite Superfoods

motion-matcha-copyMotion Matcha Green Tea. They say save the best for last, but I just couldn’t wait. You guys, I am OBSESSED with Motion Matcha Green Tea.

Matcha Green Tea is 10x more potent than regular green tea and is packed with antioxidants. It’s nutrient power helps to promote healthy eyes and skin, fight cancer and boost immunity. The thing I love about the Motion Matcha brand is that they have taken matcha tea to a whole new level with their delicious, yet subtle flavors! Think pomegranate berry, vanilla orange and strawberry lemonade.

Maca Powder. Maca Powder has been a staple in my superfood pantry for a while now, mainly because I just love its slightly caramel and nutty flavor. I often add this superfood powder to my smoothies and morning oats. Maca is a root that has been dried and ground, and is often used to enhance energy, stamina, athletic performance, memory and fertility.


Amazing Grass Green Superfoods. I started buying individual packets of the amazing grass green powders to give to clients in their welcome goody bags. I know that most people don’t get enough greens in their diet and these green powders are a fantastic way to still receive the healthy benefits of those leafy greens (hello, detoxification!).

I hadn’t really regularly used them myself until a recent trip I went on. I packed some with me and am so glad that I did! After a few hour plane flight, I dumped my green packet in some water to hydrate and give me a boost in energy. And that it did! I also loved having them on hand because when you’re traveling or on-the-go all the time, it’s hard to eat really clean and get those abundant leafy greens in. Superfood green powders to the rescue!

Raw Cacao Powder. Cacao powder has essentially replaced cocoa powder in my pantry and I just love the rich, depth of flavor it provides. Raw Cacao Powder provides even more nutrients than its counterpart because, well, it’s raw, so many of the nutrients have been preserved. Raw cacao powder provides 4x the amount of antioxidants as dark chocolate (also good for your health in small quantities!) and 20x that found in blueberries (and we though the bluebs were a real gem here).


VEGA protein supplements. I know this isn’t really a superfood, but many of their protein products also contain greens, so I’m including it in the bunch. I’ve been looking for a clean, plant-based protein for a while now and couldn’t seem to find one that fit the bill that also tasted good.

Then, I was in Target one day and saw the VEGA protein + greens coconut almond flavor. SOLD! I’ve never looked back. I love this stuff and am always adding it to my smoothies. VEGA products are made with whole food ingredients with no added fluff (artificial junk).
